Several years ago, early on a Saturday morning, I attended a belly dance class at my YMCA . I immediately fell in love with this feminine dance form and it has been my blissful escape ever since. My teacher, dearest Katia was young, hip and very encouraging.  She generously shared the world of dance, introducing us to other teachers and styles of middle eastern dance. I immersed myself in classes, workshops, haflas and souks (shopping for shiny sparkly things).

Belly dance changed my life. I developed confidence and ability to express part of me I never dreamed possible and I have made life long friendships.

I have connected with my community in a vital and precious way. It has filled a void in me and I know This dance will always be a part of who I am.

  1. Hey! That is a good picture of you at the GP parade! I like all those pictures.
Even the long-, gray-haired freak lady looks good, kinda.
That picture outside Kalia with the prominent “OPEN” sign behind us sort of reminds me of an area of Amsterdam, for some reason.
